Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Members – The most anticipated music event this year has been moved from an early summer show to the fall. The 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will now take place on November 7.
That means we have to wait until Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, T. Rex, The Notorious B.I.G., The Doobie Brothers and Nine Inch Nails are honored. But a solid and versatile class is always worth the wait.
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Members
When you’re dealing with the Rock Hall, there’s no doubt that you’re dealing with music’s greatest acts. The level of classes that have been started over the years is amazing, even for those who have a pit or two. But where does the 2020 group rank all-time?
Pink, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo Tapped For 2022 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony
We’ve looked back at each class and ranked them based on how loaded they are with talent, influencers and significant musical figures.
Not surprisingly, the classes with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin and The Who are close to the top. But which year, from 1986-2020, is number 1?
Is this the worst Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class ever? It really played that way in concert. N.W.A. decided not to perform, leaving Steve Miller and his band as the only group of prominent musicians still able to impress audiences. Still, it’s worth pointing out that Deep Purple and N.W.A. were two trailblazing dudes who finally got induction.
Bands And Artist Who Rejected Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
ABBA, Genesis, the Hollies, Jimmy Cliff, the Stooges, David Geffen, Otis Blackwell, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Mort Shuman, Jesse Stone
Just to show you how big the Rock Hall classes are, selection No.30 includes Jimmy Cliff, the Stooges and Genesis. But the class is probably best remembered for the most controversial induction of all time in ABBA. How they got in, we’ll never know.
The 2011 class is a mixed bag. It is not a deep class and features that the common audience is not familiar with. It also has perhaps the least exciting headliner of the last 30 years in Alice Cooper (or Tom Waits – take your pick).
New Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Exhibit Spotlights 2021 Inductees
Perhaps the quality of this year’s class was not present. Or it’s just meh. There really is a headliner with Bon Jovi. But what really keeps this class from falling to the bottom of this list is the influence of Nina Simone and former influencer Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Green Day, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers, Ringo Starr, The “5” Royales
This year the class will grow on you. Green Day is the clear headliner, as one of the biggest rock bands of the last 25 years. But you also get longtime dude Stevie Ray Vaughan, the last Beatle to be inducted as a solo act in Ringo Starr and the longest-waiting act in history to be inducted – the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Who Could Make Up The 2023 Rock Hall Class?: Roundtable
Some fans may stick to arguing the merits of Donna Summer’s late induction. What they missed was the first winner of the Rock Hall Fan Vote (Rush), arguably the biggest hip-hop act of all time (Public Enemy) and legendary music producer Quincy Jones, who were all inducted.
Jeff Beck, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Metallica, Run-D.M.C., Bobby Womack, Wanda Jackson, Bill Black, D.J. Fontana, Spooner Oldham
The class of 2009 is clearly top-heavy. But what a top class it is. Jeff Beck received his second Rock Hall induction, while Metallica and Run-D.M.C. – two of the biggest acts in their respective genres – were honored.
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2022 Inductees: Dolly Parton, Eminem, Duran
Madonna, one of the biggest pop stars of all time, was the centerpiece of the 2008 induction. The event culminated one of the most successful careers of any female artist in music history. John Mellencamp was also honored after a somewhat long wait.
Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, KISS, Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Brian Epstein, Andrew Loog Oldham, E Street Band
The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony featured one of the most well-rounded lists of honorees in history. The E Street Band finally got their day in the spotlight, while KISS fans scored with Rock Hall voters. It all built up to the induction of Nirvana, arguably the most important band since the Beatles.
Ranking Every Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Class
You know it’s a solid Rock Hall class when Buddy Guy, Percy Sledge and the Pretenders are just the undercard. The class of 2005 was mainly about U2, as Bono and the boys took their rightful place in the rock elite.
Eric Clapton; earth, wind; the Lovin’ Spoon; the moonglows; Bonnie Raitt; James Taylor; Nat “King” Cole; Billie Holiday; Hall Blaine; King Curtis; James Jameson; Scotty Moore; Earl Palmer; Clive Davis
The 2000 class was both groundbreaking and versatile. Acts such as Earth, Wind & Fire, James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt joined the hall along with record executive Clive Davis. Eric Clapton also became the first and only artist ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times.
Metal Star Rob Joins Dolly In Hall Of Fame As Judas Priest Inducted
Arguably the greatest rapper of all time. The band that made industrial rock a thing. Perhaps the greatest singer in pop history. The best pioneering glam rock act. And a powerhouse for electronic music. This is a pretty versatile class. The Doobie Brothers can be a weak link (depending on your age). But there is no denying what great acts they were.
2007 saw the first hip-hop act inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were honored. This year the class was small, but great with R.E.M. the main role of the festivities.
LaVern Baker, the Byrds, John Lee Hooker, the Impressions, Wilson Pickett, Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Howlin’ Wolf, Nesuhi Ertegun, Dave Bartholomew, Ralph Bass
Dolly Parton, Eminem, Lionel Richie And More Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
The class of 1991 had a lot to live up to with the stellar classes that came before it. Fortunately, this year’s lineup includes such groundbreaking acts as Ike and Tina Turner, Wilson Picket and Howlin’ Wolf. It may be one of the more underrated classes in Rock Hall history.
The Beastie Boys, The Blue Caps*, The Comets*, The Crickets*, Donovan, The Famous Flames*, Guns N’ Roses, The Midnighters*, The Miracles*, Laura Nyro, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Small Faces / The Faces, Freddie King, Don Kirschner, Tom Dowd, Glyn Johns and Cosimo Matassa
The class of 2012 was loaded when the Rock Hall made a mistake it made a long time ago by having a special category for backing groups The Blue Caps, The Comets, The Crickets, The Famous Flames, The Midnighters and The Miracles. The year also featured three of the most influential groups of the past 30 years with The Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Class Of 2018: Meet The Inductees
AC/DC, Clash, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, The Police, The Righteous Brothers, Benny Benjamin, Floyd Cramer, Steve Douglas, Mo Ostin
Any of the big acts from the class of 2003 could have headlined for another year. Still, fans have AC/DC, the Clash, Elvis Costello, the Police and The Righteous Brothers all in one ceremony to appreciate.
Isaac Hayes, Brenda Lee, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Gene Pitney, the Ramones, Talking Heads, Chet Atkins, Jim Stewart
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
There was no doubt that acts like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the Talking Heads belonged in the rock hall. But what pushed the class of 2002 over the top was the chance to appreciate groundbreaking artists like Chet Atkins, Isaac Hayes and the iconic Ramones.
Metal got its chance to shine when Black Sabbath, the godfather of the genre, took center stage in 2006. With Sabbath came Blondie, a rare focus on a female group, jazz legend Miles Davis and two big bands in Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Sex Pistols.
You may not immediately feel the tremendous impact of this class. Stevie Nicks’ solo career may not be as well deserved, but she still becomes the first woman to be inducted twice. Zombies help the late 1960s. Then you have landmark bands like The Cure, Radiohead and Roxy Music. Not to mention two of the biggest artists in mainstream music history with Def Leppard and Janet Jackson.
Rock Hall Nominees Include Lauper, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush
The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas, Lloyd Price, Santana, Gene Vincent, Jelly Roll Morton, Allen Toussaint
Every few years, the inductees meet to create a list that would be one hell of a seamless concert. Such was the case in 1998. Imagine the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas and Santana all doing a dream concert. It could only happen in a dream. But that’s what dreams are for.
Bee Gees; Buffalo Springfield; Crosby, Still and Nash; Jackson 5; Joni Mitchell; Parliament-Funkadelic; the (young) rack; Mahalia Jackson; Bill Monroe; Sydney Nathan
Watch: Eurythmics Reunite For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony
Argue if you want about disco, but there’s no doubt that the Bee Gees were part of the class of 1997. The event features some of the greatest artists/songwriters of all time. It was also an interesting year for Stephen Stills, who pulled double duty. He was drafted with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
What a versatile and amazing class. The Class of 2017 had everything you could want from a ceremony, from top class Pearl Jam to diversity with inclusion
