Tom Verlaine, the father of American punk and a star of the New York rock scene of the 1970s, died Saturday in Manhattan after a brief illness. It was 73.
His death was confirmed in a press release by Jessie Paris Smith, daughter of Verlaine’s collaborator Patti Smith, who also dated the artist.
