There are flashing lights and warning signs in the trees 50 meters before the opening. Inspector Martin Bergholm said: “For some reason the car went over the barriers into the canal. The witnesses only saw the car pass them and disappear. “
Bergholm did not comment on whether the police suspected drugs were involved in the crash, but the warning devices on the bridge were working normally and other cars had stopped to wait for the bridge to open.
– According to the witnesses, the car’s brake lights did not light up, so they did not see that the bridge was open, Bergholm said according to Aftonbladet newspaper.

According to eyewitnesses quoted in the Swedish media, the car sped past other stationary cars and disappeared into the darkness. “To get into the water, a car has to go through a red light and two booms,” said Daniel Lindblad of the Swedish Maritime Administration, which always checks with the Road Transport Agency before opening the bridge to allow ships. “The red light and the first obstacle are only 100 meters from the lifting part of the bridge. The second obstacle is too close to the edge.”
Lindblad said the Norwegian Maritime and Transport Agency determined that there was nothing wrong with the listening or signaling system during the night. “If the barriers are not reduced, the bridge cannot open,” he told Expressen. “For a vehicle to go into the water, it has to pass a red light and two obstacles,” he said.
