Perhaps most notably, the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was felt around the world, and it spawned two spectacular tribute concerts. The death of rock superstar Matt Loaf also shook the world earlier in the year. But not all those who die in 2022 are artists.

Michael Lang, founder and promoter of the Woodstock Music Festival, died on January 8 of a rare disease. Although the original Woodstock was a logistical disaster and a money pit, the show’s image softened over time as its place in musical and cultural history became more important.

I opened my Rolodex to turn to the thoughts of some music lovers I’ve come in contact with over the years. I presented the peppers in no particular order here, because sides are not needed.
John Beland is a new resident of Sonoma County and a musician who often performs here in Sonoma. Beland plays guitar and has supported an impressive list of top artists. Raise your hand if you played behind Dolly Parton. I can only see Belend’s hand.

And speaking of Starship, Marin County resident Pete Sears kindly offered his memories. Sears is a hot guy with a great story. He’s played with too many people to list here, but that includes Jefferson Starship.
I have to say Sears was all over the album, Rod Stewart’s “Every Picture Tells a Story,” playing all kinds of instruments on all the tracks, including “Maggie Me.” This is one of my favorite albums of all time.
