The museum’s gallery and artifacts commemorate these talented musicians and unique sounds from cities like Nashville, Detroit, Muscle Shoals, Memphis and Los Angeles.
Founded by composer Joe Chambers, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum opened in 2006. This sprawling, multi-million dollar complex honors the talented behind-the-scenes people who provided the background music and vocals for the greatest recordings of all time. . The hall welcomes performers from all genres of music, including country, rock, soul, jazz and religious. Often these artists were house artists in recording studios that created the distinct sounds of places like Detroit, Memphis and Muscle Shoals. These unknown musicians contributed to many of the biggest hits from the 1950s to the 1980s.

To form the Music City Center, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum moved to Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium in 2010. In addition to a 10,000-seat performing arts venue, the facility has 68,000 square feet. a foot show area that now houses galleries and Hall of Fame exhibits. Once a year, the museum hosts a gala that includes the induction of new members into the Hall of Fame.
New ‘western Edge’ Exhibit Brings La Country Rock To Nashville
Nashville’s premier attraction, the museum features exhibits dedicated to various cities across the country known for their unique sound and contribution to music. These include Detroit, Nashville and Muscle Shoals, as well as Memphis, Los Angeles and New York. The museum pays tribute to studio artists such as the A Team, the Memphis Boys and the Swampers and the Funk Brothers and the Wrecking Crew. The center also remembers studio groups that have become headliners such as Toto and Booker T and the MGs. Since the 1950s, these groups have performed more than 80 percent of the songs recorded at these music hotspots.
Exhibits include record industry artifacts and memorabilia from the decades since the 1950s. Of particular interest is the collection of session instruments used to record classic hits. A unique item on display at the museum is the Wm. Knabe and Co. Grand Piano For Children. used by John Lennon and Elton John to compose the song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. Elton John also used the piano to record “Philadelphia Freedom” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” Michael Jackson used the instrument while composing and recording many songs. There is also an exhibit dedicated to Roy Orbison that includes his sunglasses, musical instruments and other memorabilia related to his stellar career.
The Grammy Gallery is an interactive exhibit that allows guests to explore the history of the prestigious award, step into the spotlight and experience all aspects of the recording process. Budding singers and music lovers can strap on headphones, play a variety of instruments and sing the backing tracks to many of the winning hits. There are also exhibits highlighting rehearsal, sound recording and editing processes.

The Hall of Fame and Museum is located on the first floor of Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. Entrance via Camí dels Musics. The Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. at 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Students, seniors, military and police receive a discount off the regular admission price. Children 5 years old enter for free. Paid parking is available in garages and on lots adjacent to the museum.
