Music Gym – If you’ve ever spent hours creating the perfect workout soundtrack, you’re not just wasting your time.
Research shows that the music you listen to can affect your athletic performance—so Amazon Music teamed up with a group of music scientists to design the ultimate gym motivation playlist featuring a diverse group of artists like Kendrick Lamar, AC/DC, Post Malone, Beck . . , and more

The researchers, working with the University of Osnabrück, worked with music and sound company TRO and Amazon Music to create a 60-song playlist using criteria based on established science.

“Current scientific studies show that certain musical patterns of composition (such as a strong rhythmic structure) can be motivating, especially for anaerobic exercise,” a university official said in a statement.
. “On the other hand, the choice of different songs in a playlist plays a key role.”
Picking those songs wasn’t as simple as scoring the Top 40 for catchy tunes or setting a minimum threshold for beats per minute (BPM). We asked TRO team leader Daniel Warings how exactly the list was put together. His response below, which we received via email, has been lightly edited for clarity.
Gym Workout Songs Of 2022
MH: Beyond BPM, are there any other factors that make songs particularly effective for enhancing performance? What about the content of the song? Are specific styles of instruments used?
DW: Sports and upbeat music are often associated with each other. However, research shows that slow motivational music enhances performance. Above all, rhythm intensity plays an important role. Our analysis of workout music shows that workout songs have one key element – a strong beat. So if any instrument plays a major role in workout music, it’s definitely the drums.
Of course, lyrics are also a motivating factor. This was highlighted by a study that compared the effects of the same part of the song once with and once without the song.

DW: Because music with a strong beat has a particularly active effect, genres with a particular emphasis on intense rhythms such as hip-hop, rock or electronic are often preferred.
The focus of our playlist is to use the inspirational power of music to push people to their limits. Music’s perceived emotion, and thus motivational effect, if we listen to it at high volume. A study by Edwardi and Waring showed a 5- to 10-minute workout with loud music increases performance. However, we have not heard of any studies at this time examining volume as a parameter for gains during a full training session.
Volume should be used carefully during training, as it has been shown that our ears are more sensitive to loud sounds when combined with exercise. We believe that increasing the volume slightly during the last set is a good way to take advantage of the volume up effect.

Most studies have been based on the Wingate test which is designed to measure anaerobic performance including mean anaerobic power as well as maximal power. Therefore, the results can be transferred to other anaerobic sports such as weight training.
Is there a difference in effect between an athlete listening to music on a personal device with headphones versus a speaker system?
Each device has its advantages. Speaker systems have an advantage as some people find it uncomfortable to wear headphones in training situations. On the other hand, there is the music preference factor: whether you like music or not affects your performance. People feel less effort when listening to music they like than when listening to music they like. So if you can’t stand music in your gym, you might consider switching to headphones. This way you can control the music type and volume.

A study suggests that listening to up-tempo music can increase the benefits of exercise – and reduce the stress of engagement.
The report, published in Frontiers in Psychology, presents the results of a team of researchers investigating the effects of the tempo of a piece of music on female volunteers.

The team studied a group of volunteers who either did regular endurance exercise (walking on a treadmill) or high-intensity exercise (using the leg press).
The researchers recorded various parameters, including the effort required to complete the exercise and the volunteers’ perception of their heart rate while exercising, as a higher heart rate means exercise is more beneficial for physical fitness.
“We found that listening to high-tempo music during exercise resulted in the highest heart rate and lowest effort compared to no music,” said Professor Luca P. Ardigo from the University of Verona, Italy.

“This meant that the exercise seemed less strenuous, but was more beneficial in terms of improving physical fitness.”
The effects were more pronounced among volunteers completing endurance exercise sessions than those performing high-intensity exercise, suggesting that those who do endurance activities such as walking or running may benefit most from listening to high-tempo music.
“In the current study, we investigated the effect of music tempo on exercise, but in the future we would like to study the effects of other music characteristics such as genre, melody or song on endurance and high-intensity exercise.” Ardigo added.
Gym Addict Quotes: All I Need Is My Music And The Iron
Listening to music while working out at the gym is popular and previous studies have documented some benefits.
However, “how” we experience music is highly subjective, with cultural factors and personal preferences influencing its effect on individuals. Music is multifaceted with many aspects such as rhythm, melody and melody contributing to the experience.
