Dr. Joyce F. Brown is the chair of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a specialty college of art, design, business, and technology at the State University of New York (SUNY). Appointed in 1998, he is the sixth president of the college.
Dr. Brown is a highly respected teacher and academic administrator with over 30 years of experience in public higher education. Prior to coming to FIT, he held a number of senior administrative positions at the City University of New York (CUNY), including Acting President of Bernard Baruch College and Vice President of the University. Prior to his appointment to FIT, he was Professor of Clinical Psychology at the City University of New York Graduate School and University Center, where he is currently Professor Emeritus. Dr. Brown also served as New York City’s deputy mayor for public and community affairs during the David Dinkins administration.
