The Affair: Short-lived pop group from Sydney. In 1968, they released their first single, “Shoeshine Boy” b/w “What Became of Mary”. They won Hoadley’s Battle of the Bands in 1969. The prize was a trip to London. They released another single “Money Can’t Buy Me Love” b/w “Sing a Simple Song” (I think these are covers). Shortly after the group moved to London, they broke up. Band member Mike Howlett was at the gong and later became a record producer.
Air Supply: Soft rock band formed in Melbourne. They were mostly popular in Australia and New Zealand in the 70s. They were successful abroad till the 80s. In 1976 they released their first self-titled album. “Love and Other Brews” was a number 10 hit on that album. “Blank Pages” was a minor hit from the same album. In 1979, they reached the top 20 with “Lost in Love”.
The Aliens: New Wave band formed in Melbourne in 1978. They signed with Mushroom Records and recorded their first single, “Clash”, in the summer of 1979. It reached the top 40 in the winter of that year.
S Rock Music
Angels: Pub rock group formed in Adelaide in 1974 as Keystone Angels. Founding members John and Rick Brewster formed a blues rock band with Irish-born Doc Neeson. The band was called the Moonshine Jug and String Band. Their sound evolved into a hard rock sound as The (Keystone) Angels.
The group was signed in 1976 and recommended by famous fans Bon Scott and Malcolm Young. In fact, before signing, they opened for AC/DC. John Brewster had this to say about AC/DC and Malcolm Young: “By the end of that first day, we were friends. As a rhythm guitar player, Malcolm Young would probably be my biggest influence; Just amazing it was a young age for us and we were learning how to be a rock band.”
Their first single, “I’m Ever Gonna See Your Face Again”, was released in 1976 and was a minor hit. Their second album,

, reached the top 20 on the Australian Albums Chart and peaked at number 152 in the US. Not only that, it was certified 4x platinum in Australia. Their single “Take a Long Line” was a top 30 hit in their country. I also love the song “After the Rain”.
Not to be confused with other groups in America called The Angels, they released albums under the name Angel City (from The Angels). They’re totally different from the ’60s girl group that sang “My Boyfriend’s Back,” so you can see why.
