Lynette L. Allston (above) has been elected chair of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) Board of Trustees in Richmond. Member of the board since 2017, he replaced Dr. Monroe E. Harris Jr., the first black man elected president of VMFA’s governing body. Allston is the first Native American president of the VMFA board of trustees and, according to the VMFA, the first Native American to chair the board of 10 full-fledged art museums in the United States. Allston is Chief and Emeritus of the Nottoway Indian Tribal Council in Virginia.
