New Orleans band Trombone Shorty will headline the Philly Arts & Music Festival on September 24th in South Philadelphia.

The day’s event will take place on the Philadelphia Navy Yard’s Marine Parade at the south end of Broad Street. In addition to the title, this festival will focus on Philadelphia activities and showcase local artists and artisans in the craft village.

The event is presented by Spectacor Events & Entertainment, a new subsidiary of Comcast Spectacor, which operates the Wells Fargo Center.
Their partners in the development of the event are interesting. The art piece is curated by Streets Dept, a photography blog founded in 2011 by photographer Conrad Benner. He also blogs about street art in Philadelphia.
Last week, Fishtown released three videos produced in collaboration with the Senior Adult Swimming Project. The mural was a collaboration between the blog’s mural department – Street Dept Walls – and Swim Adult.

“Philly art is one of the best in the world, and it deserves to be celebrated,” Benner said. Exhibitors will include Nuto Studio, Ah Ha Brands, Spector Sports Art and Metz Art Gallery, Benner said.
Apart from Trombone Shorty, no bands have been announced at this festival. The songs were written by Luis Murrero, founder of Voices in Power, which hosts live mic “experiences” twice a month in Philadelphia and in Camden, New York, Houston and Miami. The next two Voices of the Power events are at Roxy Hall and Bistro on August 16th and REC Philly on September 3rd.
Trombone Shorty performs with his band Orleans Avenue at the event. Troy Andrews, a 36-year-old singer and trumpeter, goes by the name Sleepy Kid.

The Philly Arts & Musical Festival will be held at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, 4701 Ave. Intrepid Ave., from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and go on sale August 11 at 10 a.m. at Pamf Festival.com. Dubbed the Brighton Main Street Wine Art Festival, the event will begin at 5 p.m. until 21:00. Friday; 10:00 am to 9:00 pm Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on the highway.

Now in its 35th year, longtime attendees will remember the event as the Brighton Fine Art & Acoustic Music Festival.
A new name, beer and wine around the Mill Pond for the first time, and a new vintage market will give the event “a fresh twist to keep it fresh”, according to the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce. , which is co-organizing the event with sponsor Eberspächer North America, Inc.
“We wanted to renew the festival. It’s been 35 years, so it’s time to change it,” said Sophia Freni, the festival’s executive director.

New this year, all acoustic concerts will take place in Brighton’s recently renovated Amphitheater at Mill Pond, AMP. They have been deployed in many sectors over the past few years.
“For the first time, beer and wine will be available near the Mill Pond and in the amphitheater,” Freni said. “There will be four types of beer, four types of wine and Truly (malt liquor) for sale…for $5.”

The Kids Tent outside Brighton Bar & Grill, 400 W. Main Street, will feature art projects for kids to take home. The children’s tent is designed by companies Oh My Lolli, Jack’s Custard and The Ceramic Studio and sponsored by Ascension.
Brighton Art Guild holds a special exhibition, ‘Winners Circle’, to showcase award-winning artists. Guild’stent will be placed in the field near the Mill Pond.

“This is a celebration of the Brighton Art Guild’s 20th anniversary,” said Department Development Director and designer Mary Lou Wiegand. “We want the public to understand the importance and impact our artists have on society.”
Wiegand said more than 60 works by 28 award-winning artists in the organization’s annual Kaleidoscope member show will feature their winning works and other works they’ve created since. In the valley tent there will be a written text and a picture showing the history of the valley.
“We have fiber artists, graphic artists, photo editors, portraits and sculptures,” Wiegand said. “It’s well done to have a unique art.”

“Some will be sold … and some of the older (artwork) has now become family heirlooms, so they are not sold. Some of these pieces have been sent to the family,” he said.
Visitors to the guild tent will be able to vote for their favorite artwork for the “People’s Award”.
